"Police had to call in backup when more than 200 young people - some of whom were carrying knives - turned on them in Hyde Park, central London. One man was shot with a stun gun when he set his pitbull-style dog on an officer.
And three children, aged between five and 12, were thrown off their horses after the animals were spooked by the fight - which lasted about an hour. Paramedics took all three to hospital for injuries including suspected broken bones and concussion.
What was meant to be a lighthearted chance to cool off in the sun yesterday turned sour as visitors in the park reported seeing men "flashing" their weapons. Dogs were used to break up troublemakers and arrests were made for offences including attacking police, public disorder, affray and handling stolen goods.
The organised water fight was similar to the event attended by teenager Frederick Moody-Boateng at Holland Park before he was stabbed to death two weeks ago. Scotland Yard said police officers were prepared for the water fight after it was advertised in online chatrooms. But a spokesman said the event turned nasty as 250 "high spirited" young people gathered in the park.
Police set up a search area in Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens to comb participants for weapons.
But a large number of people became hostile and violence erupted for almost an hour as officers dispersed the crowd."
